What you need to know about 2021 QuickBooks Online price increases

The price of QuickBooks® Online subscriptions for Essentials, Plus, and Advanced products will be increasing in an upcoming billing cycle. You will receive a billing notification with all account details 30 days before your August billing date.

Why is QuickBooks raising its prices?

At QuickBooks, we take your business seriously. Supporting the needs of small business owners and mid-market customers, especially in the face of shifting and changing markets, is our singular focus. To do this, innovation is key. New products, reports, tools, features, and functionality drive how we support the efforts of small businesses. Periodic price increases make sure we continue to deliver the product that best meets your needs. Not just for today, but for many years to come.

Why now – when we have just been through a tough year with COVID-19?

We understand this year has been difficult. We are adjusting QBO prices for the first time since 2019 (and QuickBooks Advanced for the first time since it was introduced in 2018) to align with the market and so we can continue to invest in the product.

Which QuickBooks Online product prices are changing?

This price change affects selected QuickBooks products, namely Essentials, Plus, and Advanced.

What extra value am I getting for the price increase? Are you introducing new features?

Yes. We never stop innovating. Users like you continue to provide incredible feedback and insights which have informed our latest updates for Essentials, Plus, and Advanced, including,

  • QuickBooks Cash (Debit card, Envelopes & Planner) – Earn high interest and speed up money movement with a small business bank account that automatically tracks finances in QuickBooks. Account opening is subject to identity verification by Green Dot Bank.1
  • Online Bill Pay – Pay your bills directly, and hassle-free, from QuickBooks Online using Online Bill Pay (powered by Bill.com).* Streamline your bills with everything in one place. Pay bills via bank transfer or check directly, and pay 1099 vendors/contractors via bank transfer (ACH) or paper check. Subject to additional terms, and fees.
  • Tagging – Explore powerful, detailed insights from your QuickBooks Online data with transaction tagging. Tags provide flexibility to track business details the way you want without touching your books or chart of accounts, which are used for tax purposes. By assigning customizable labels called “tags” to any and all invoices, expenses, and bills, your reports in QuickBooks Online quickly reveal how a product or service line, event, etc. is performing.
  • Time Tracking – Minimizes repetitive data entry by letting workers input their time directly into QuickBooks Online. Now you have the convenience to create, review and edit timesheet data, and use that data at any time in QuickBooks Online workflows, such as invoicing, payroll, and job costing.
  • Cash Flow Center – Forecast finances, sync all your accounts, see credit card and loan balances, and even open a checking account built right in QuickBooks.2
  • Redesigned mobile app to help get work done faster on the go, with improvements to mileage tracking and receipt capture and match.
  • New Search Widget enables type-ahead searches; searches by telephone number, address, tags, and information entered in memo fields; multi-criteria search; saves most recent searches and allows customers to navigate directly to action centers (i.e., create an expense, create an invoice, create a bill, etc.)
  • And several other features to help you save time, get organized, and run your business from anywhere.
  • For Advanced, these additional improvements are designed to help your team work smarter:
  • Reporting and insights to focus on the KPIs that matter most: Performance Center centralizes data and automates revenue stream and cash flow dashboards, and helps you configure, save and share custom reports and dashboards.
  • Customization to streamline collaboration and improve accuracy: Automate key workflows, select pre-populated custom fields, as well as control access to sensitive information with custom roles.
  • Batch transactions to get more done faster: Manage hundreds of bills, checks, expenses, or invoices at the same time.3
  • Data management for more control: Back up changes and restore company data to a specific date and time4, import a budget, and link your QuickBooks to your Google account.
  • Premium apps to seamlessly track and manage your data: Docusign, Hubspot, Bill.com, Leanlaw, and Salesforce connector (additional fees may apply)

What if I don’t use those features?

We understand that not all businesses have the same needs at the same time as others. And while some businesses may not use features, growth and change may find them using features down the road. We’re constantly evaluating feedback we receive from business owners and designing plans around what makes the most sense for managing and running a business. With QuickBooks, you can change plans at any time. Review QuickBooks Online planning and pricing to make sure you have the right plan for your small business.

 When will I see these new prices reflected on my bill?

New prices will be effective on your first billing date on or after August 1, 2021.

How can I check my billing details?

Sign in to QuickBooks Online

  1. Select the Gear icon
  2. Select Account and Settings
  3. Select Billing & Subscription

I recently upgraded my subscription to Essentials or Plus. Will I be subject to this price increase?

Yes, you will be subject to this price increase.

  • If you upgraded prior to July 15, you will be subject to the price increase following the upgrade date.
  • If you upgrade(d) on July 15 or after, you will be charged the new price from day one.

I recently upgraded my subscription to Advanced. Will I be subject to this price increase?

Yes, you will be subject to this price increase.

  • If you upgraded prior to July 15, you will be subject to the price increase on your thirteenth billing date following the upgrade date.
  • If you upgrade(d) on July 15 or after, you will be charged the new price from day one.

How long until the next price increase?

Our goal is to keep prices as consistent as possible with as few disruptions as possible. We currently have no additional planned QBO price increases.

Is the pricing for other services (Payroll/Payments/Live) changing?

There are currently no planned price increases for Payroll, Payments, or Live. Existing customers will be notified in advance of any future pricing changes.

If I change plans, what features would I lose?

We’re constantly taking feedback from users about what matters most to them. We encourage users to evaluate their plan and make sure they have the best plan, price, and features for their specific needs. To compare plans, please log into your QuickBooks account and visit https://intuit.me/QBOHelp for Account and Settings and select Billing & Subscription.

Can I change my subscription?

Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade at any time from within the product. You can also change to an annual subscription to lock in your current pricing. (Please note that once you elect an annual subscription, you cannot switch back to monthly billing until your next annual billing cycle.)

What if I am on promotional pricing?

If a customer is currently on a promotional discount for Essentials, Plus, or Advanced, their price is unaffected until the time that their promotion expires. When the promotion expires, the monthly subscription rate will be adjusted to match the price increase communication in this alert.

My subscription was canceled/expired and I would like to resubscribe. Can I get the old pricing?

No. You will need to re-subscribe at the current market price.

The price has increased since I started my free trial. Can I get that original price?

The monthly subscription price that you pay is set at the time that you add a payment method, so that is the price that you will be charged today and ongoing.

If you decide to cancel your subscription, you can download your data using the following process:

You can export reports and lists into individual Excel files contained in a zip format in one process. To export your report or list:

  1. Select Settings ⚙ and then Export Data.
  2. On the Reports tab, set the date range.
  3. Add or remove items from the Reports and Lists tabs by toggling the slider.
  4. Select Export to Excel.
  5. You’ll be prompted with confirmation that the data has been exported.
